Adelante has a small Legal Department that takes on litigation and legal representation in select cases in the areas of civil rights and civil liberties, employment and labor law, immigration and criminal defense, and related matters. Most of Adelante’s legal resources are dedicated to representing our members and pursuing litigation and legal advocacy that advances our mission and the interests of our members.
In summer/fall 2018, Adelante will be launching a new project to provide pro bono legal representation for individuals from the Birmingham area and at the Etowah County Detention Center who are seeking to be freed from immigration detention and reunited with their communities. This project is part of the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Southern Immigrant Freedom Initiative (SIFI) network.
